Mark Millard shared a message titled, "Getting Unstuck (DIY vs TIG)" John 11:1-3 Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. 2 (This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair.) 3 So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love is sick.” It’s easy to read the first few verses as set up for the story (Lazarus got sick… his sisters sent for Jesus… then when Jesus arrived the fireworks happened). But perhaps those first few verses aren’t just preamble, they are in fact the SET UP FOR A MIRACLE. Or in other words: A recipe for getting unstuck. Sometimes we ask, "What have I done to deserve God's help? Who am I?" The lies we believe can prevent us from doing the simple thing of taking our eyes off the problem and pivoting toward Jesus. Jesus is the drink for every thirst! Psalm 36:9 For with you is the fountain of life. John 6:35 Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty." 'Son, Daughter, you don't need to carry this alone, let me carry the weight, I've got this.' Psalm 36:7-9 NIV 7 How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings. 8 They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights. 9 For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. NLT 7 How precious is your constant love, O God! All humanity takes refuge in the shadow of your wings. 8 You feed them with blessings from your own table and let them drink from your rivers of delight. 9 For you are the Fountain of life; our light is from your light. We are literally MADE to receive from God. For Him to be our life source, and then to overflow! Our light is from God's light. Pivoting is simple but it's not necessarily easy. DIY vs TIG Doing it yourself vs trusting in God. Mark 4:26-29 26 “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. 29 As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.” God's Kingdom is not DIY. It's not about our ability to sort it out ourselves, but instead to trust in God. It's not about you! The pivot is a set-up for a miracle. It gets us into a place where we believe anything is possible. God gave Abraham a promise of a son, but Abraham came up with a DIY solution. Galatians 4:22 22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and the other by the free woman. 23 His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a divine promise. God’s promise to Abraham would never come about by his own attempts to DIY. But ONLY BY HIS TRUST IN GOD. If we want to see break through from God… we need to stand back and trust. Going back to the story of Lazarus, when Jesus heard his friend was sick, He waited. John 11:6 says Jesus stayed where he was for two more days. He waited. Why did He wait? Why didn’t He give Abraham his promise straight away? Why doesn’t He come through for us straight away - sometimes we must wait. Jesus knew what was going to happen (that Lazarus would die) but he waited. Sometimes God allows us to go through discomfort because He's taking us to a place where we know we can trust Him, that He's sure and He's faithful and He's way bigger than we can currently comprehend! Jesus declared that Lazarus was only sleeping and three days after he'd been buried (dead-dead in Jewish culture) Jesus called Lazarus forth and He was raised! Jesus did the impossible! Whatever your situation: Whether you’re stuck, at the end, need a miracle or just need hope, it begins with us pivoting to Him and receiving from Jesus. --- You can watch the full message below:
